José Afonso’s classic albums for the first time on digital: 3 new releases this Spring ’22

Mais 5 is proud to release, on CD, LP and in Digital formats, another three classic José Afonso albums never before available on digital.

Working closely with the Estate of José Afonso, original album artwork designer José Santa Bárbara, and mastering engineer Florian Siller, the album that is often described as “best Portuguese album of all time” Cantigas do Maio (1971) is released in April, followed by Eu Vou Ser Como a Toupeira (1972) end of May and Venham Mais Cinco (1973) in June – those are the Portuguese and digital release dates.

Meanwhile, working closely with Broken Silence distribution, Thag’s Agent and Chateau du Pop PR in Germany, May 20th is the release date of Cantigas do Maio in Germany.

The album releases will be accompanied by a series of digital singles, and the Mais 5 releases will resume in the Fall, following a Summer that allows José Afonso’s classic humanist songs to be heard across borders and generations like never before. “We’re the children of the early dawn”, now…
